A History of City Administration

Incorporated for Growth While the original German-Catholic colony of Muenster was founded by the Flusche brothers in 1889, the community operated without a formal city government for its first 38 years. That changed in the 1920s when the discovery of oil in Cooke County brought rapid economic growth and a surge in population. To properly manage this expansion, build structured infrastructure, and provide public safety, Muenster officially incorporated as a city in December 1927. Today, from our headquarters at 400 N Main Street, the city administration continues that legacy by adapting to modern needs while maintaining our small-town values.
